Across The Universe- May 30th

Grade: A

We liked this one so much, we gave it the Titan Library Best Book 2011 rank- and we mean it!  The first chapter alone is worth your time even if you think you're not a Sci-Fi fan.

The Earth is dying and a new planet that will sustain human life has been discovered. Amy, along with her parents, have been selected to be cryogenically frozen for the 300 year trip to their new home. However, she is awakened 50 years too early and discovers that someone is systematically murdering the other sleeping passengers. Furthermore, life on board the Godspeed is not going according to the original plan due to the tyrannical leadership of Elder. Amy must grapple with this life altering event, figure out who to trust, and stay alive long enough to find the killer before her parents become the next victims. But don't think this is just a "who-done-it" set in space.

Beth Revis has crafted more than a typical murder mystery here. In fact, most of the discussion we've had has been about the rebellion that is inspired by Amy and Eldest (the second in line to take over after Elder), their developing relationship, and the inexplicable actions of those who follow blindly. There's soooo much here for some heavy discussion. And we're not 100% sure, but we are REALLY hoping that there will be a sequel.

Dig into this one and enjoy!

Wahoo! We've got it on our list 'to order'. Thanks for the info. Too bad we've got to wait until Jan. 2012.
